Jake & Melissa: Married in Bermuda!

These are just a few of my favorites from Jake and Melissa's wedding... despite the crazy wind and harsh sunlight, there were SO many shots that I LOVED and simply couldn't post them all on here!!

Jake and Melissa were one of the sweetest couples I've had the pleasure of working with, and it was such an honor to be there in Bermuda with them and their families!

Two of my sisters came along for a mini-vacation, so I had traveling buddies on top of it all––that was a weekend I won't ever forget! Over far too quickly, but SO worth it.

I could go on and on about our experiences and adventures and the details from the wedding day, but I'm thinkin' I've got to start changing my late-night habits and scoot to bed! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves for now. :)

Contest: The Hiding Place

Hey guys!

This is coming up pretty fast, but on a whim (as I often do things), I'm running a contest! This will be an easy contest to enter––just send me an email! I'll be randomly drawing the winner who will then recieve two adult tickets to see "The Hiding Place," a ballet performed by Ballet Magnificat!

The performance is being hosted by Soli Deo Gloria Ballet, for whom I have photographed many of their performances and company photos. (Also, my sister and cousin are the founders of the company––holla!)

For more details on the ballet and on Ballet Magnificat!, visit this link. It will be a performance you won't want to miss!! I had the pleasure of attending one of their ballets several years ago, and I have never gotten over how incredible they were!

The performance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 at 7:30 PM in the Niagara area.

To enter, email me at deborah@figgiephotography.com with the subject line "Contest entry!" The deadline is Saturday, May 2 at midnight. The winner will be notified by email on Sunday, May 3.

Hurry!!! Hope to see you there! (I'll be the one slinking around with a big ol' camera, all incognito-like. ;)

Ben & Alexis: Engaged!

This was a fun shoot... Alexis has been really close friends with my family for several years, and I've been so honored to be asked to do their engagement photos and wedding! (Some of you may recall I was also asked to hide in the bushes the night Ben proposed... unfortunately, the "bushes" were nowhere to be found and were instead replaced by bone-crumbling freezingness! You can read more about THAT adventure here. My sister Leah was so unfortunate as to have to come along and freeze out of her mind whilst holding my camera bag.)

So April 11, Leah and I felt encouraged. It was sunny out, a light breeze swaying the budding trees... much better than last time! The plan was to start our shoot at the same spot in the park where Ben proposed, so this would be the perfect time to make up for lost opportunities!

We step out of the car, and what do you think hit us? Freezing cold wind!! It was whipping EVERYwhere!! Of course this park WOULD be along the river and this particular spot seems to have a temperature fifty degrees less than all of the surrounding parks, but hey...

Ben + Alexis + Photos = Freezing Weather.

I'm practically placing bets that they'll have a freak snow storm on the day of their wedding... (end of June, if you're interested.)

Somehow we still managed to get some adorable shots of the two, though, and that little to do with me! Props to Alexis for braving the cold in capris and sandals!!

And because we like to keep with tradition, Leah snuck into a shot with them... (I'm honestly not sure if they ever realized she was behind them for this.)

Quick clothing change, and it was time to play!

Alexis was all over that idea...

And of course, who do you think was lurking around behind them??

Another quick outfit change and we were off to one of my favorite little coffee shops--Taloola's! For the first time EVER (on a photoshoot), there were actually seats available! The four of us took a break over some amazing hot chocolate (I had the Burmese Cocoa -- coconut curry!), and then went back to it!

A coffee shop photo shoot just isn't the same if you don't play with your cinnamon sticks... come on. You know it's true.

Once again, a huge thank you to Ben & Alexis for giving me the honor!! :)
